台北から約１時間の平渓にて、旧正月の15日翌日(2013年2月24日)の元宵節に開催されるお祭りです。高さ約1.5mの紙風船に、家庭円満や平和、健康等の願い事を書き込み、熱気球のように一斉に空に放ちます。何千もの天燈が台湾の夜空にゆらゆらと舞い上がっていく様子はなんとも幻想的で圧巻の美しさです。
